Nicola Gale is Professor of Health Policy and Sociology at the University of Birmingham, UK. She is an international leader in the fields of sociology of health and illness, health policy and management and qualitative methodologies. Her current research focuses on front line workers in health and social care and how they manage the tensions of implementing risk-based policies in practice. In the field of antimicrobial resistance, she is particularly interested in how ideas of ‘rational prescribing’ are enacted in real life clinical situations, and how these insights can be used to design more effective policies. She is the Co-Director of the Confronting Antimicrobial Resistance (CARe) theme in the University of Birmingham’s Institute for Global Innovation.
