Online conferences

Cristina Moreno and Nicolas Fortane are both co-hosting panels at the EASST4S conference 18^th-21^stAugust. Christina’s panel (no.156), Situating antimicrobial resistance (AMR): locations, spaces and borders, concerns the ways in which AMR and associated responses are framed in different contexts and locations. Nicolas’ panel (no.6), AMR in Globalized Economies: Knowledge, Regulation, Markets, focusses on three areas: controversies structuring the field of AMR; International policies and local specificities; and circulation of antibiotics in a globalised world. With an incredible 217 open panels, there’s plenty to choose from! The European Association of Social Anthropologists’ annual conference, ‘New anthropological horizons in and beyond Europe’, is being held from 21^st-24^thJuly. Two panels of interest include ‘Animate mobilities: Troubling Social, Ecological and Biological Boundaries’ (P010), and ‘Living with microbes’ (P043), which will explore multi-species relationalities and emerging ecologies in and around microbes.

The Health Systems Global Conference (HSR2020) is being held from 8^th-12^thNovember in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The theme of the conference is ‘Re-imagining health systems for better health and social justice’, seeking to break old silos and re-orient health systems to address public health and engage the political, social, and environmental forces that perpetuate health inequities and social injustices. This wide-ranging conference provides an opportunity to share knowledge and develop partnerships. Individual abstract submissions have now closed, but early-bird registration opens from 1^stMarch-31^stJuly.

The American Anthropology Association Annual Meeting 2020 is structured around the theme of ‘Truth and Responsibility’, and is being held on 18^th-22^ndNov in St Louis, MO. The theme focusses on the anthropological Imperative to bear witness, take action, and be held accountable to truths written and circulated, especially in light of knowledge production and intervention measures. Panels will consider how facts become stabilised as truths; how quantitative researchers might use anthropological insights to identify patterned truths; and the responsibility anthropologists have to critically challenge given ‘truths’. These enduring questions remain pertinent to the AMR community as we seek to engage with diverse stakeholders and provide ‘fresh perspectives’ on the global issue of AMR. Note: The deadline to begin abstract submissions has been extended to the 15^thMay.

Cancellations/postponements

The Royal Anthropological Institute’s conference ‘Anthropology and Geography: Dialogues Past, Present and Future’ has been postponed until 2022.

The Association for Social Anthropologists annual conference on the theme of ‘Responsibility’ has been postponed to 2021. There will be a second call for papers released in the autumn.

The Royal Geographical Society’s annual conference ‘Borders, borderlands and bordering’ has been postponed to 31^stAugust – 2^ndSeptember 2021.

The Royal Anthropological Institute’s Medical Anthropology conference, ‘Mobilising methods in medical anthropology’ has been postponed to 2021.
